Dear Residents of District 16:
As you know, HRM will be introducing E-Voting for the first time. This move will provide all residents with the choice of either using a paper ballet or voting electronically using a computer, telephone or a cell phone.
- E-voting - Vote anytime from Saturday, October 4 starting at 8:00 am until Monday, October 6 ending at 8:00 pm. (These are the only dates set aside for electronic voting.)
- Advance Polls – Saturday, October 11 and Tuesday, October 14 from 12:00 pm (noon) to 8:00 pm
- Election Day Polls – Saturday, October 18 from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm
E-voting is new to most of us but this is how it will work:
- Between September 26-29th, all registered voters will receive in the mail, an information sheet from the Elections Office. On the top right-handed side of the sheet, you will find a PIN NUMBER (Personal Identification Number). This number identifies you and is specific to you; therefore it is non-transferable.
- The document will also give the telephone number you must call to register your vote or the web address to log on when you are ready to cast your ballot.
- When voting electronically, the only information you must provide is the PIN number that was mailed to you and your date of birth (for security purposes).
- The information sheet is specific to each District. For example, you will see the names of the candidates running for Mayor, the names of the candidates running for office in District 16 and the names of the school board candidates running in District 16.
If you have recently moved into District 16 or changed your mailing address, you must call the Elections Office at 490-8683 (vote) and request changes to your personal information. The PIN number you were issued will stay the same, however the list of candidates will be for the District you are currently living in.
When you receive your information sheet, please read carefully and keep it in a safe place.
In the meantime, I look forward to speaking with each of you as I make my way through the District prior to Election Day.
